Division Unit with Technology

Division Unit with Technology

I have attached my grade 4 introduction to division unit. With all of my math units I like to focus on conceptual understanding first then move to the applications so my units are fairly slow paced in the beginning then pick up as we move along. I find that my students typically respond well to…

Number Sense Activites

Posted on March 18, 2022 By Amanda Younger No Comments on Number Sense Activites

I chose to create my Pinterest board focusing on number sense.  Number sense routines are something I do daily with my students and that provide a lot of opportunity for students who may not normally engage in mathematical discussions to engage. My goal when choosing number sense activities is to pick Low Threshold High Ceiling…

Math Routines

Math routines have become one of my favourite ways to build number sense in my classroom. There are many math routines out there and I could not list them all in this post. Below I have outlined a few of my favourites. My Favourite No This has to be a favourite in my classroom and…

So many of the strategies in this document can be implemented as a whole class basis as part of the UDL and RTI frameworks. By using some…

Math In Images

Math In Images
Above is a picture I took of some of our current math activities in my room. Many of the items are playful in nature from our counters to using Lego to build arrays as well as more traditional manipulatives including Cuisenaire rods and decks of cards. For me math is a game and a puzzle to be solved.  I also chose the chess game below because it is a game of strategy and part of the playfulness of math involves trying different strategies to accomplish a goal. Math is often a game of strategy understanding which strategy to use and when to use it to solve a problem much like playing Chess, Risk, Settlers or Carcassonne.  My goal is to expose students to as many strategies as possible, so that they can choose how they play the game.
