Prompt:
three typical questions in your curricular area: one factual, one conceptual and one debatable, around the theme of famous Canadians, answering the following:
- What…?
- How…?
- Should…?
I would use this for our biographies unit where students pick a historical figure they admire and we work through the historical thinking concepts to discuss what that person has contributed to the world and why they should continue to be remembered.
- What rights did Louis Riel want the Metis people to have?
- How did the Red River Uprising change the future of Canada?
- Should Louis Riel have been hung?
I would love to take the third question and have students debate it or go a bit over the top and have a mock court room and have students act out the trial and the group that is the jury have to make a decision.
